10/22/2012 - KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Absentee voters in southern Afghanistan have only a few days remaining to participate in the United States' 2012 General Election set for Nov. 6. In order to ensure the timely arrival of absentee ballots to the U.S., the Kandahar Airfield Post Office recommends U.S. citizens mail their absentee ballot by Oct. 28.
According to a post office official, more than 3,000 ballots have already been mailed from the Kandahar Airfield Post Office.
"Three thousand forty-eight ballots have already been mailed from KAF," said Sgt. 1st Class Janine Goolsby, the postal services noncommissioned officer-in-charge at the KAF Post Office from the 18th Human Resources Command headquartered at Fort Bragg, N.C. "We have been receiving more than 150 ballots a day for several weeks."
Prospective voters should visit fvap.gov for information on the Federal Voting Assistance Program. Once at the site, active duty members of the armed forces should click on the left "Getting Started" button.
Registration and voting regulations vary in each state, so service members should read their respective home state's guidelines carefully.
